Many retailers have to pay a ‘merchant fee’ for processing payments by debit or credit card. They pass the bank charges to the customers and often they make some benefit. Mostly the retailers don’t mention the charges, which makes it very difficult to determine which are the actual costs of goods and services. One good advice, pay as much with your debit card as possible, the fees are a lot lower than with a credit card.
